Why Youths Need to be Involved?
First, democracy is strongest when citizens participate and for too long, young people haven’t been full participants. Second, the best way to get politi¬cal leaders to pay attention to young people and their issues is to demonstrate that young people are a viable constituency that can be mobilized. By increasing the number of young people vot¬ing in a big way, issues affecting youth may quicker be addressed and politicians will start taking young people’s opinions seriously.
Youth need to feel that their vote can make a difference. Many youth feel disconnected from the political system. They feel disillusioned and disempowered within the political process. The end result is that many of our youth in Trinidad and Tobago do not vote. They believe that issues affecting them are not taken seriously and they do not see many policies and issues debated by our political leaders as affecting them. Many of them are not even aware of the legislative policies and issues. This is why this Youth Voter Awareness Campaign is so important. It seeks to reach youth through exciting activities aimed at enlightening them and sensitizing them towards the electoral process and civic participation in the electoral process.

Why Youth Voting Matters

  • Voting is habit-forming: when young people learn the voting process and vote they are more likely to do so when they are older. If individuals have been motivated to get to the polls once, they are more likely to return. So, getting young people to vote early could be key to raising a new generation of voters.
  • Young people are a major subset of the electorate and their voices matter:
  • More then 46 million young people ages 18-29 years old are eligible to vote, while 39 million seniors are eligible to vote.
Involving young people in election-related learning, activities and discussion can have an impact on the young person’s household, increasing the likelihood that others in the household will vote.
  • Young people are most effective messengers within their communities.
  • They are the Future of Nation.
  • They can change entire situation.

  1. “Every vote counts. Keeping this in mind, every citizen to go to the polling booth and cast their votes. As per records, state assembly witnessed only 67.18% of polling in state while it reduced to 65.31% in 2008. Its really perfect campaign run by MESSAGE Org. We all must vote for Nation

  3. Android App
Appealing to the young voters, more than 15 district election offices recently launched their Facebook pages. One can fine information about the voting procedure, use of EVM machines, voters’ names and even affidavit submitted by the candidates on the site.
The Facebook pages also have promotional films uploaded with sports personalities like Saina Nehwal for voting awareness. The Jaipur Voter Helpline Android App has also been launched recently. Designed especially for young voters, information related to electoral roll and polling booths can be accessed without turning on a computer, just the app needs to be downloaded. The user can also find his polling booth as well as the route to reach the polling station with this app. No doubt, the tech savvy youth is taking a keen interest.

  8. In my opinion young voters will not only go for voting but also like to vote for Modi because their future is dark in the hands of other parties. We have witnessed how they have been filling their bags with money totally ignoring the interests of the people and this is something that everybody is now aware of.

  10. WHY SHOULD YOUNG PEOPLE VOTE?

First and foremost, voting is our RIGHT! At the very least, we owe it to the numerous activists that worked to give us this right by simply availing it. As young people, the future starts with us. We have the chance to make our government the way that WE want it to be, but it all starts with one thing: a vote.
